Workshops Committee

Description:

Actuarial Science Club’s annual Spring Symposium is an opportunity to showcase emerging trends in the actuarial world through leading experts in the field. This year’s event will be in the form of a webinar series. Committee members will help with the planning and execution of the webinar series. If needed, committee members will also help with planning spring semester workshops. Applicants with strong communication abilities, research skills, and time management skills are preferred.

Tasks: 

  • Coordinating speakers, cultivating student interest and navigating the challenges of creating a successful virtual experience

  • Assisting in research and planning logistics for the webinar series

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per week


Number of committee members: 2-6 members per committee


Publicity Committee

Description:

Committee members will be responsible for assisting in strengthening our connection with alumni through the Alumni Newsletter and expanding the ASC’s presence on social media. Applicants with strong writing and design skills are preferred. 

Tasks:

  • Assisting in website development

  • Writing articles for the website and the alumni newsletter

  • Designing pages for the alumni newsletter

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per week (Expect a weekly group check-in meeting)


Number of committee members: 2-6 members per committee


Marketing Committee

Description:

Committee members will be responsible for assisting in promoting events, with a focus on the webinar series, and expanding ASC's presence on social media. Applicants with strong writing and design skills are preferred.

Tasks:

  • Designing marketing tools, such as brochures and social media posts, to advertise the webinar series and other club events

  • Exploring different social media platforms & planning for expansion

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per week (Expect a weekly group check-in meeting)


Number of committee members: 2-6 members per committee


Social Committee

Description:

Committee members will help coordinate and promote the club’s social events including but not limited to Barn Dance, Semi-Formal, and the Bar Crawl to build engagement and give students an opportunity to meet their peers outside of the classroom. Applicants with strong communication skills, time management, and detail orientation are preferred. 

Tasks:

  • Researching event logistics and brainstorming new activities, and collecting feedback from events

  • Placing orders for supplies or decorations

  • Connecting with other organizations at UIUC or other universities for joint events

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per week

International Committee

Description:

Committee members will help with the planning and execution of the webinar series and also be actively involved in creating new events and finding new opportunities and information for the international community. Applicants with strong communication abilities, research skills, and time management skills are preferred.

Tasks: 

  • Coordinating speakers, cultivating student interest and navigating the challenges of creating a successful virtual experience

  • Assisting in research and planning logistics for the webinar series

  • Researching and recording career related information for the international community

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per week

Research Committee

Description:

Committee members will explore topics relating to actuarial science for the purpose of bettering the club, and will help with brainstorming and planning new initiatives. Applicants with strong communication abilities and research skills are preferred.

Tasks: 

  • Researching the role of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the workplace and the insurance industry in order to grow DEI initiatives within ASC

  • Conducting analyses on other actuarial science clubs at different universities to improve our organization

  • Producing more resources for club members such as expanding the Freshman Handbook and compiling lists of upcoming symposiums and conferences

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per week (Expect a biweekly group check-in meeting)
